I would love to be self suffcient in power consumption and food production. By 2013 get ready for a finiancial crunch as I predict we will have serious economic issues in the US. I plan to prepare myself for this so I do not need to rely on buying power. Hopefully to grow my own food.

i'm currently working on 5 geothermally heated greenhouse food production projects in the western united states. 2 in idaho; one in las cruces, new mexico and one in klamath falls, oregon and one in northern nevada. i feel that people aren't hungry enough to get these projects done yet, and more importantly, i feel that community is born out of necessity. good points, thanks for making them. i welcome a continued discussion here.

Some things are possible, such as using solar power. But most people are too lazy to go back to farming imo. For the things you want you need a group effort, good luck on that, most teenagers don't find it very "cool" to hang out with old people. This might work if the community was super small. But most often in towns like that people know all the dirt on everyone and have already made judgments, therefore resulting in their segregation.

I think it is interesting and better for in most every aspect, but it's never going to happen. People in the US are far to segregated in their mind set for this to happen any time soon.
