and on this guitar he's said that he uses a heavy gauge string to get better sounding harmonics. so if you have light or medium gauge strings itll be harder to get the same beautiful harmonics

You could technically use either, but a steel string acoustic would give you the sameish sound. Don't expect it to be exact, he's playing a top-of-the line, stonebridge guitar.
