Usually not. Because sometimes they put things that cost money for free. It's like stealing. But that doesn't mean that all torrents have illegal contents. But if you're looking for movies, music, or programs you better be safe and use Amazon or iTunes for music and just buy DVD's or pay for the movie online ( from iTunes) and get programs from the owner's site or buy it.

I usually use uTorrent to download ripped-movies or musics, ebooks or whatever interesting(sometimes).I think it likes you go to your friends, and, you borrow his new bought DVDs to go home and watch! Torrents is friendly and not-illegal.
